hurricane gustav hits baton rouge

On Thursday, August 28th J & K very happily moved into their new home in Baton Rouge. We left about 3:00 pm on Friday to help them paint and do whatever they wanted us to do. We knew Gustav was headed that way, but were hopeful it would change directions. We got there about 10:00 that night and visited for a while and ate some yummy Papa Murphy's pizza and then hit the sack. The next day we painted and cleaned. We knew on Sat. that we should start our drive home on Sunday. We got up and J & his dad installed a new ceiling fan and K & I worked on the front shrubs. We were checking out the local traffic on the internet and every road looked great so we continued to work. We left about 11:30 and arrived home about 10:15 pm. It was a long drive. After we were on the highway for a while they started the contraflow traffic. That felt and looked really strange. I felt like an evacuee and was beginning to freak out a little because the exits along the highway were barricaded and there were policemen, highway patrolmen at most of the exits and I thought, "What if we need to exit? What if I have to go to the bathroom? What are we going to do?" Thankfully, the traffic improved and the exits were no longer barricaded so I was able to relax somewhat.

K sent us these pictures today and after I saw them, it made me realize just how lucky they were. We had been texting them, but did talk some and knew they were ok but without electricity. K said J spent most of the time like this while she and Ellie were in the hall.

Here's our grandpuppy, Ellie, trying to look like her daddy. Isn't she cute?

This is the neighbor's house behind J & K. That's his carport on top of the house.

The grass at the base of this tree looks like a rug pulled off the floor.

This house was about a block from their house. This really scared me when I saw it.
